At The Ruth Titilayo Educational Foundation (RTEF), we believe that a proper education should be an opportunity available to anyone who has the potential to thrive regardless of their financial means or background. In Nigeria, too many students have to overcome significant barriers to complete their studies. Many have to stitch together a patchwork of part-time earnings, student loans, bank loans, family contributions and hardship grants to finance their studies.
Picture this: Somewhere in Nigeria today, a 16-year-old boy from a small village is brilliant at Mathematics; dubbed as a mathematics prodigy by many, but is unable to resume school because his parents cannot afford his tuition fees. Think of a university student in Nigeria who has dreams of becoming a medical doctor in just a few years but just had his tuition fees doubled for the second time in three years leaving him in state of helplessness; dreams slipping away. These stories are all around us and they are the reality of millions of young Africans.
This is why our foundation exists. To ensure equal access to education for everyone even amongst those who are financially disadvantaged. So far we have been able to fund 87 students out of 6670 applications received through the RTEF Scholarships. With your support, we could do so much more, helping more students become the doctors, scientists, researchers, planners, engineers teachers, accountants, and much more of the future.
